It was a great night, Olimpia controlled the game against perennial Final Four contender Fenerbahce right from the start and won convincingly 87-74. It was another team effort, with many players capable to contribute, help and being decisive in spurts. “The best thing that happened tonight: everyone gave us something,” Coach Ettore Messina said. Fenerbahce started the game 6-2, then it was all Olimpia right through the end. The lead was always in double figure. Fenerbahce returned down by seven late in the game, but it was pushed back all night long. Olimpia even used for many minutes an unusual line-up featuring two centers. In spite of being a risky move, Olimpia took control of the boards with Kaleb Tarczewski grabbing nine rebounds, and Arturas Gudaitis, in his first Euroleague game back from his horrific February injury, scoring 17 points including two crucial three-point plays. Vlado Micov epitomized the night: he scored only seven points, for most of the game he was silent scoring-wise, but had seven assists. Or Michael Roll, who made two vital threes in the fourth quarter. His only field goals of the game. Sergio Rodriguez was his usual self with another 22 points, five-assist effort. “But I have to mention Amedeo Della Valle, who had a very solid and mature game, hopefully it will be one of many more,” Messina added. Della Valle scored 10 consecutive points early in the game, then five more when he re-entered the game in the second half. Olimpia closed a 10-game losing streak against this Fenerbhace team and extended the current streak to three.
