Olimpia lost itself in the third quarter, allowing Asvel to score 32 points turning a seven-point deficit into a nine-point lead that Milan was unable to overcome. In the fourth quarter, Olimpia came back within four twice, but couldn’t make the necessary stop to complete the rally. Asvel won 89-82. Olimpia had a promising first half, led by seven at intermission after tallying a 12-point lead, but the second half was a completely different story. It started with a 4-point play by Jordan Taylor, a 6-0 run that ignited a time-out, and basically the game never returned in Olimpia’s hands. “I honestly think it’s been two different games. One for the kids and the other for grown men. In the third quarter, Asvel scored 32 points and had only one assist. All their field goals were straight lines to the rim or offensive rebounds converted. That’s what I mean when I say that it was a second half for men. It’s not the first time we experienced something like that. It happened in Khimki, in Athens or in Munich, the season very first game. We cannot buy these qualities, I think we have them hidden somewhere and we have to help our players to get them out,” Coach Messina said.
