Olimpia won the Supercup semifinal game against Venezia 71-66 thanks of furious rally in the fourth quarter. After trailing for most of the game, it was capable to execute better in the end both offensively and defensively. Olimpia went down by 13 in the first quarter and again by 10 in the second. After a Cerella’s three tied the game at 53 early in the fourth, Venezia used a 6-0 run to get away. Again, after a 5-point possession (two free throws by Jamel McLean and huge three by Andrea Cinciarini) brought EA7 within one, Phil Goss made a big three. The answer was great: Charles Jenkins, who spent the majority of the game sitting on the bench plagued by foul trouble, made another three and after that stole the ball from Goss scoring the go-ahead for good basket with less than two minutes to play. Olimpia’s defense lately was outstanding: when Gentile was double and triple-teamed and found McLean underneath to dunk the ball and get up by three, Jenkins again forced Goss to travel. It was the decisive play. Alessandro Gentile had an amazing second half, during which he had six assists to go along his team-leadin 17 points. Olimpia will play the final against Reggio Emilia on Sunday at 6.30 pm.
