A tough 72-63 loss against Monaco. Olimpia played an excellent brand of basketball for 25 minutes, built a 11-point commanding lead, because of a great defensive effort. But when the game looked under control, suddenly stopped to execute, made some silly mistakes, kept missing shots and lost control of the tempo and the game. Monaco had a 20-1 run after being scoreless in the first five minutes of the third quarter, turning a deficit into a eight-point lead. In the fourth quarter basically, Olimpia attempted to comeback but couldn’t get closer than five points. It never seemed on the verge of regrouping and win the game. “We got a 11-point lead and then we started making mistakes of superficiality, both ends of the floor, we stopped playing and lost ourselves, so they deserved to win. I was glad with the way we played up until then: we have been missing some shots, but defensively we kept their shooters under control,” Coach Ettore Messina said. The loss ruined a little bit his 400th game coached in the EuroLeague, the second ever to get there. Olimpia struggled without Nicolò Melli and his rebounding presence. He was a late scratch because of some gastroenteritis problem.
