Twice in the second half, Olimpia had momentum. First, down by six points an open three taken by its best shooter, Billy Baron, was rejected by the rim. Later on, down by ten but with momentum still going in its favor, Olimpia missed three straight free throws. Maccabi regained confidence and rhythm and finished the game, going away in a very convincing 85-66 win. Olimpia had to comeback in the second half, because it didn’t show enough consistency in the first, especially the first quarter when allowed Maccabi to score 29 points on 11-for-14 on twos. Too many easy shots were created by Maccabi, te defense was flat and so Olimpia went down by 17 at intermission. The third period was another story with Maccabi held to 13 points including a shot-clock beating three by Jarrel Martin. Shabazz Napier led the scorers with 15 points, Shavon Shields added 14. “Second half, we found our old chemistry and good defense – Coach Ettore Messina said -. Two moments decided the game – first when we missed a pair of completely open threes when we were down by 6 and had momentum. The second was when we were down by 10 and missed 4 free throws. Maccabi has remarkable athleticism and that can make a lot of difference in the EuroLeague. On top of a good system, they have guards who can create at any moment. That’s very important in the playoffs and the title game.”
