Olimpia have won eight times out of 16 in its EuroLeague opener but counting its last 11 appearances the record improves to 8-3. The last three home openers have all been successful: 84-74 in 2021 against CSKA; 87-73 in 2020 against Asvel; 85-81 in 2019 against Zalgiris. It is the first time that the home debut takes place against Alba Berlin. The game is scheduled to be played on Friday night at 20:30 in Mediolanum Forum.
In today’s version of the EuroLeague, Olimpia have faced Alba six times with a 4-2 record which becomes 5-3 if we include the 2015/16 Eurocup. Last year the two teams won one game each. But the history of this duel has its roots in the last century: in 1995, Olimpia and Alba faced each other in the Korac Cup final series. Berlin won an international title for the first time, winning 95-87 at home and tying 87-87 in Milan. The two teams also faced each other in the 1996/97 edition of the old EuroLeague: Alba won 91-80 in Milan, Olimpia took revenge in Berlin, prevailing 78-68. Therefore, if we consider all the games played between the two teams, the record becomes 6-5-1, slightly in Olimpia’s favor.
