Mission accomplished. Olimpia got the win in its quarterfinal game over Reggio Emilia thanks to a resounding 80-52 final score. It took a little bit of the first quarter to take control of the game, then Olimpia never relinquished its momentum, in spite of being generally ice cold from three-point range. Milan shot just 8-for-26 from long range, but its defense was dominant, kept Reggio Emilia 0-for-16 from three in the first half and 1-for-19 after three quarters. Olimpia also dominated the boards (Shavon Shields grabbed nine rebounds, Kyle Hines and Zach LeDay added seven), controlled most of the fifty-fifty balls and was never threatened. “They missed some crucial players, but they played a serious game, I liked our dribble drive defense, but I understand that the next game will be played against a team of a different level, so our key guys minutes will have to grow,” Coach Messina said. The newcomer Jakub Wojciechowski had a solid effort, grabbed five rebounds and added 10 points, the third-best scorer behind Zach LeDay’s and Kevin Punter’s 15 points. “He has a good hand, he takes position well, he allows me to have one more option to protect Kyle Hines. Obviously he will be waited by a different kind of opponents, but the start was a good one,” Messina said.
