In European competitions, Olimpia Milano and Real Madrid have met 36 times, with a record of 27-9 in Real Madrid favor. Real Madrid-Olimpia awarded the European Cup in 1967 in Madrid and the Cup Winners’ Cup in Ostend in 1984: in both circumstances, Real won. This game has been played 18 times in Madrid and the record so far is 17-2 for the Blancos. In Milan, it is 8-9 (Real Madrid is leading 1-0 on neutral court). Olimpia has won in Madrid 62-61 (Lonnie Cooper and Claudio Coldebella scored 11 points each) in the 2003/04 Eurocup, then it won for the first time in Madrid in EuroLeague in 2021, 80-76 with Sergio Rodriguez scoring 17 points and Malcolm Delaney adding 14. Olimpia’s won the first saven games played in Milan against Real Madrid, a streak that was started in 1964 and lasted until 2010 when Real Madrid prevailed for the first time. However, Real won seven straight games in Milan and 15 overall before succumbing twice during the 2020/21, in Milan first and in Madrid later.

THE REAL MADRID CONNECTION – Sergio Rodriguez has played in Milan for three seasons, leading the team to its first Final Four berth in 29 years, in 2021, to the Italian league championship in 2022, to two Italian Cups and one Supercup. Rodriguez is the all-time 5th best scorer in Olimpia EuroLeague history, first for assists and three-point shots made. Ettore Messina has coached Real Madrid for two seasons with a 23-13 EuroLeague’s record. Among his players during that time there were Sergio Llull, Sergio Rodriguez and Nikola Mirotic. Mirotic has played four EuroLeague seasons with Real Madrid with 1.046 points scored over 97 appearances.

ICONIC PLAYERS – On the court there will be the three players who have won the most games in the history of the EuroLeague: Sergio Llull (282, all of them with the same team, an even more difficult record to improve), Kyle Hines (278) and Sergio Rodriguez (267) Rudy Fernandez is sitting in fifth place in this list, with 245. Edy Tavares and Kyle Hines are also first and third for blocked shots throughout their career.

NICOLO’ MELLI NOTES – Nicolò Melli climbed the chart of the all-time defensive rebounders in the EuroLeague, surpassing Georgios Printezis and also Felipe Reyes. Melli now boasts 1,100 defensive rebounds, 64 less than Ioannis Bourosis, who was his teammate for two years at Olimpia. Melli is also eighth in total rebounds with 1,465: he has surpassed Georgios Printezis. Melli needs one two-pointers to be the third Olimpia player with 300 two-pointers in the EuroLeague after Kyle Hines and Kaleb Tarczewski.

SHAVON SHIELDS NOTES – Shields is 28 points away from Vlado Micov’s 1,232 points and the second place ever in the Olimpia EuroLeague scoring charts. Over the last 13 EuroLeague games, he has made at  least two three-pointers 12 times and 10 times he had at least two of them. Shields has also had at least steal in 10 of his last 11 games played.

KYLE HINES NOTES – Hines made 86 blocks in the EuroLeague with Olimpia. He is two away from the club record held by Kaleb Tarczewski.
