A 27-point career-high by Nicolò Melli propelled Olimpia to a big win in Trento, 79-73, obtained despite missing seven of the top players some for rest, some for injuries. While Melli was outstanding right from the beginning (he had a 12-point scoring outburst in the first period) and went 10-for-11 from two, converting basically all of his five offensive rebounds, Olimpia was given a boost from the bench. Tommaso Baldasso, the young point guard coming in at mid-season, was instrumental, with a 16-point explosion. He made a huge jumper at the end of third and started the fourth with a corner three. He was 6-for-9 from the field over 16 minutes. Trento was a tough out, featured all his players and never gave up. Olimpia basically led for the length of the game but couldn’t get away. Trento kept coming back, tying the score at the half and again on several juncture in the second half. Olimpia had all the right answers. “I’m happy because this is a difficult court to win in, because Trento is well prepared and we were missing a lot of players at a difficult point of our season with so many games, trips and all that stuff. The effort was big, we had some rhythm, Melli was huge, but several players gave us a lift, Baldasso, Alviti, Grant,” Coach Messina said. Alviti scored seven points and added six rebounds, Jerian Grant added five points but he was all over the court defensively and in the closing minutes a couple of defensive plays helped Olimpia big-time. Devon Hall finally added 11 points and six assists in the another all around effort.
