“We started the game a little bit soft but it was expected less than 40 hours after the Istanbul battle, so we rode the energy of the players that normally don’t play much in the Euroleague. Nico Mannion was huge. Ousmane Diop and Stefano Tonut, too. Winning was the cherry on top of the cake of a beautiful day”, Coach Peppe Poeta commented on a 99-87 win over Dinamo Sassari in the Italian league at the end of the celebration for the 90th anniversary of Olimpia’s history. The team started slow, without Shavon Shields and Armoni Brooks was quicky plagued by foul trouble. Sassari took advantage of it and built a nine point lead. Olimpia responded late in the first but found itseld behind by ten points early in the second. Gradually, Mannion (who finished with a double double) led the comeback and a 13-0 run completely changed momentum. In the second half, after a sequence of scoring by Tonut and later by Brooks, Olimpia opened up a 24-point lead that was managed to the end. Sassari was able to come back within eight, but Guduric took over and finished the game for good.
