Olimpia came up short again in Game 4, surrendering to Efes 75-70 in a thriller. Milano came back from a 0-8 start, a 11-point first period with a 32-point second quarter explosion. When Efes rebuilt a double-digit lead in the third quarter again Olimpia responded with defense, a great rebounding effort and holding Efes to two points over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, went ahead by four. The last three minutes killed Olimpia chance for an heroic win, playing with a short handed roster. With the game tied, James Singleton found a way to score three out of four free throws. Olimpia had twice the three to tie the game one more time but it couldn’t. “I want to congratulate my players for a great EuroLeague season. We have been eliminated by the defending champions but we stayed close despite the many players missing. I’m grateful to Sergio Rodriguez and Gigi Datome for the great effort. We’ll try next season to be in the playoffs again and give it one more try,” Coach Messina said at the end. “We have been unfortunate to play Efes in the playoffs, we were aware of how difficult the series was going to be. We are disappointed but we have our best. Obviously, we weren’t in the best shape and still we were close. Making the playoffs is not to take for granted. This is something we need to remember, even if now there’s disappointment,” Gigi Datome added after a phenomenal 21-point effort. Kyle Hines had 10 points and also an incredible 12 rebounds, eight of them offensive.
