Olimpia closed the regular season losing 89-86 in Venezia surrendering the first place that was detained for four years. Milan finished second and will start the playoffs against Cantù. Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday in Mediolanum Forum, game 2 will be played on Monday. The quarterfinals series will be played at the best of five. The Venezia game was outstanding offensively because both teams shot the ball extremely well with the notable exception of the second quarter. Olimpia played catch-up all game, staying close but never getting the lead. The balance was broken by Michael Jenkins in the fourth when he made five straight points. Olimpia responded again and with a three-pointer by Micov got within two with a couple of seconds lef. “It was a game that we lost for a lack of attention to minor details, because we had too many silly turnovers and defensively we didn’t play with the right amount of aggressiveness. Those are areas we need to improve quicky before game 1. Our goal is to improve day by day along the series and the entire playoffs”, Coach Pianigiani said. Then he added: “Cantù is a talented team, they have the talent to win in Milan but we have already showed we can win on their home court. So we’ll be ready and preparared mentally to play a long series”.
