The playoffs started on a high note. After struggling in the first period (“We were tight, we wanted to do well too hard”, Coach Repesa said) and in spite of allowing too many offensive boards in the third, Olimpia used its defense and shared offense to beat Trento and win game 1 with a convincing 86-74 outing. Rakim Sanders led all the scorers with 21 points. Esteban Batista battled all game with the pshysical Trento’s front-lime and scored 16 points but Olimpia had five players in double figure including Mantas Kalnietis who was very good attacking the rim. And Charles Jenkins’ defense was all across the floor and generated stelas and fast break opportunities. “After the first time-out we came back better at both ends of the court – Coach Repesa said – what we need to do is to better organize our defensive rebounding. They have very reactive bigs and perimeter players uswd to attack the boards. When all your team is focusing on offensive rebounding if you are able to get your hands on the ball then you get good chances at running the break. It happened a couple of times today”.
