Armoni Brooks led Olimpia to a 83-78 win in Scafati, a difficult game to approach with three big men missing. With Josh Nebo out since a few weeks ago and Ousmane Diop injured during the previous game, Zach LeDay was a late scatch. “It was a total team effort, we were tired after playing twice in a three-day span. Under the same circumstances, last year we lost in Scafati,” Coach Ettore Messina pointed out.
Brooks staying on the court 32 minutes and scored 20 points. He was a factor early in the game and again in the second half when Olimpia made its move to get away. In spurts many players helped, Dimitrijevic in the second quarter, Shavon Shields in the third, Stefano Tonut when Olimpia played its best basketball. Short on bigs, Olimpia had energy from Willie Caruso, six points and six rebounds, then played minutes with no real centers, with Mirotic and Pippo Ricci in the middle. Ricci had another useful game. Finally, when Scafati led an all-out anticipated assault, Dimitrijevic converted an offensive rebound grabbed by Ricci with a huge three that essentially closed the game off.
Dimitrijevic finished the game with 13 points, Tonut and Shields added 11. “The key was going to play down low with Bolmaro,” Messina pointed out.
