Olimpia missed seven players and was capable to compete in Bologna for almost half a game. The early execution, at both ends of the floor, propelled the team a six-point lead and one more run early in the second closed the gap and tied the game three times. It didn’t last. Eventually, Bologna had more energy, depth and health. Olimpia finally gave up and lost 83-65 although in the closing minutes a good run by Ben Bentil helped the team containing the margin within acceptable limits. Virtus used its size inside with Jaiteh who grabbed 15 rebounds. The rebounding difference was huge this time. Olimpia was affected by Kaleb Tarczewski’s two quick fouls in the opening minutes. Coach Messina had to change rotation. He tried to use also Nicolò Melli at the center spot and even implemented a big-size lineup but the game belonged to Bologna. “Obviously, they deserved to win – Coach Messina admitted – We were really short, we were shorthanded in January too when we defeated them, but since then they added Hackett and Shengelia. So, regardless of the many players missing, we have to work to shrink the gap before the playoffs,” he added.
