A consistent first quarter is not enough for Olimpia, losing 78-63 in the Euroleague home-opener against a very inspired FC Barcelona. EA7 started the game on a high note, got a seven-point lead but Barcelona didn’t miss a blink, was on fire from the perimeter, made 5 for 6 in the first period alone (three consecutive threes by DeShaun Thomas) and in the end was able to surpass. The second quarter was crucial because Barcelona kept shooting very well (Alex Abrines finished the night 5/5 from long distance; Tibor Pleiss was 6/6) while Olimpia couldn’t executive as it should have been. In the end Olimpia kept coming back but Barcelona had all the answers. Unfortunately too many guys didn’t shoot the ball well (Ragland and Brooks combined for two points) enough against a powerhouse. Daniel Hackett had a terrific game and Alessandro Gentile had 7 rebounds and 8 assists to go along a bad shooting night (3/16). Now Olimpia has to play twice on the road in Munich and Athens, two crucial games for the rest of the group.
