Tomorrow EA7 Emporio Armani will face Brose Bamberg in Desio, a game potentially decisive for getting to the Top 16. Olimpia won the road game by 14. Samardo Samuels will be out, obviously, due to his fractured right hand, while everybody else is available including Angelo Gigli, Kristjan Kangur and Bruno Cerella, who missed last week game against Real Madrid but returned last Sunday for the league game against Montegranaro.
Coach Luca Banchi had this to say: “The game against Bamberg can potentially give us the access to the Top 16 and that’s why the approach has to be consistent with the stake at hand. We face a team coming off some big games, they went close to beat Real Madrid in Bamberg and then went to Istanbul and got a big win for their Top 16 aspirations. They’re a little bit different from the team we faced in Bamberg because they added D’Or Fischer e Novica Velickovic making them even more athletic and physically imposing. Besides during the Euroleague season they’ve been very dangerous from the arc with their perimeter guys. We’ll have to make sure we respect those characteristics in order to win the game”.
Curtis Jerrells, who made his career-high of 27 points against Bamberg last season said: “I scored my career-high last year against Bamberg but they were a different team and I’m playing with different guys. So I’m more defensive oriented now to complement the skills of other good ball handlers like Langford and Gentile. We played a very good game in Bamberg but they’re coming off a great road win and we have to be careful, protect the home court and get to the Top 16 which is the first step”.
