Against one of only two unbeaten EuroLeague teams, Olimpia came up just a little short. Milan played a fantastic game for 28 minutes, went up by 13 then CSKA responded with a quick 10-0 run that turned a Olimpia-dominated game into a fistfight. Short on rotations because of Nedovic unavailability, Olimpia struggled in the fourth trying to stay in the game with it’s heart and by rebounding the ball extemely well (Jeff Brooks grabbed 13 boards). The score was still tied at 80 before Cory Higgins and Kyle Hines made the crucial plays at both ends of the floor. CSKA bad some lucky breaks including a rebound after a three that touched the high end of the backboard, a rare three-second violation, a flagrant foul. Olimpia rode Vlado Micov in an amazing display of greatness in the third, Mike James had 12 assists, Dairis Bertans was clutch from the outside while both centers did a great job in the paint. Still against a renowned powerhouse it wasn’t enough to win. “It was the game that mentally we wanted to play – Coach Pianigiani said at the end – and it probably was the best that we have played so far. We lost because of some details like letting them erase the 13-point margin with a couple of missed assignments. It was tough because of the match-ups. They had a true 3 on the court for the entire game basically so we couldn’t go small. The decisive factor were the 17 turnovers because they ignited their fastbreak and because we were averaging 10 per game”. Olimpia is 4-2 now having lost only against the remaining undefeated teams in the league. “We have been very good up until now but we know there’s a lot of room for improvement. We have to use games like this one to build our path, improve the small details that make the difference”
