Olimpia struggled in Paris right from the beginning. A rough start allowed Paris Basketball to build immediately a 12-point lead that was never relinquished. Olimpia attemped several comebacks in every single quarter but was always affected by tough starts to the periods and finally lost 92-79. It didn’t have enough defense against Paris’ quickness especially with TJ Shorts who dictated the tempo and had a dominant night, 24 points and 10 assists. Olimpia struggled with Nikola Mirotic clearly hampered by his recent hip injury. He tried hard, as he did one week earlier in Belgrade, but couldn’t do much this time. Paris tried to eliminate from the game the big scorers and succeeded. Zach LeDay scored 14 points, Shavon Shields added 10 (and nine rebounds) but the Big Three included Mirotic combined to shoot 1-for-11 from three-point territory. So, it was to other players to perform well. And some of them did. Nico Mannion had a dominant shooting first half and finished with 17 points for the night; Fabien Causeur had an incredible third period, wth floaters, tough threes, free throws, and finished with 15 in the quarter and 18 overall. Stefano Tonut also gave the team a lift in the first half. But overall, Olimpia was never consistent enough at both ends of the floor. “I think the third quarter was good, we scored 30 points, and came back to a four-point deficit but then we made some mistakes, such as a foul on a three-point attempt, and got behind again. We keep doing these errors while we should be more consistent. However, we had a rough start,” Coach Ettore Messina said. Olimpia is now 16-14 for the season: “We have four games lleft and everything is still possible. We are in the mix and we’ll use what we have to the end. Hopefully we could be healthier, especially Mirotic,” Messina concluded.
