It wasn’t a game, it was a recital and a statement. Olimpia won convincigly in Athens, 99-75, dominating the game from the middle of the third quarter and right until the end. Milan won with a collective effort that was started by Vlado Micov impressive 13-point first quarter and was finished by Mike James and his perfect readings and scoring. Then it was a team effort with everybody capable to help, Nemanja Nedovic had a 18-point second half, Arturas Gudaitis a terrific inside game and Kaleb Tarczewski finished the game strong so allowing the margin to explode late in the game. But really everybody helped. Olimpia scored 99 points against a historically good defense and while allowing Nikola Milutinov to be a devastating presence in the middle the defense kept eveybody else under control. James scored 22 points, Nedovic added 20 and Micov 19. “Afetr the Real Madrid game I wanted to see a reaction, I wanted to measure our mental toughness. We survived the test, we were tough and we are building the right mentality. I liked a lot how we took the lead, with fastbreak generated by the defense, I liked how we defended after the first quarter and I liked that everybody was ready to compete and fight. It was a great game, not matter the result”, Coach Pianigiani said at the end.
