Olimpia suffered a disappointing loss in Napoli, 95-87, because of a disappearing act in the fourth period. After finishing the first half on a high note, a Diego Flaccadori corner three that opened up a six-point lead, 47-41, right after a series of runs, taken and given, Olimpia seemed posed to get away in the third period. After a Flaccadori’s steal and two threes made by Shavon Shields and Zach LeDay (who went 4-for-5 from three-point range), Olimpia extended the lead to 15 points in the middle of the third, 62-47. Napoli came out of a time-out swinging with three consecutive threes that cut the margin to six in a matter of seconds. However, Olimpia managed to weather the storm and regain a nine-point lead at the end of the third on a Bortolani’s corner three. And then everything unraveled. Napoli played loose, riding the wave generated by their guards especially the explosive Erick Green and Jacob Pullen, who combined to score 45 points for the night. Olimpia was simply annihilated, couldn’t make a stop and stopped executing on offense. Essentially, it was a matter of taking threes with no rhythm and no ball movement, playing right into Napoli’s hands. The run overall was 23-3. A game that seemed won and well directed into a win suddenly got away. Napoli finished the game dominating it, 95-87.
