A night to cherish forever. Olimpia turned a nightmare into a comeback for the ages. With a 19-0 run in the last 4:21 of the game got the win over AS Monaco, 79-71. The defense held the opponents scoreless for more than four minutes and the only point Monaco scored was from the free throw line when the outcome was already decided. It’s been a storybook night. Tim Luwawu-Cabarrot after four days in bed woke up in the morning and tried to play. He wasn’t his usual self and in the second half he remained on the bench when Olimpia played with seven players. Then six when Kyle Hines, frustrated, complained vibrantly about a couple of calls. He was sanctioned with two consecutive technical fouls and ejected. From that point on, the game changed. The crowd, almost 12.000 people, got really into the game, helped the team believe. Olimpia kept believing but with 4:21 remaining the score was 70-58 for Monaco. Then the defense stepped up. Big time. And the three point shots suddenly kept going in. Billy Baron had another monster game, 23 points, 6-for-10 from three including some crazy shots. Then Devon Hall helped him completing another great game, then Melli made a three, finally Ricci. Ricci was the unsung hero of the game. He scored eight points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead free throws when he grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled in the process. Brandon Davies also made two huge three in the second half. On top of that, the game was coached by Mario Fioretti because head coach Ettore Messina was sick and unable to come to the arena. “We prepared the game on their physicality, so when Luwawu-Cabarrot was sick we moved on and decided to use Ricci at the 3. He was solid,” Fioretti said. Olimpia was 10-for-17 from three in the second half. “We started the game pretty good offensively, then we struggled at moving the ball in the second quarter and they killed us on second chance points. Eventually we fixed the problem, the fourth quarter defense was exceptional, mostly during the fourt minutes we kept them scoreless. Obviously, in the fourth we started making shots,” Fioretti added.
