A bad night that started to unravel in the second quarter became even worse early in the third. Shavon Shields led an all-assault in the attempt to reduce the 16-point deficit accumulated late in the first half. But during that time, Nikola Mirotic and Freddie Gillespie went down in back-to-back possession. Mirotic suffered a hit to his right hip and was done for the night. Gillespie hit with his head to Devon Hall’s head and collapsed heavily to the court. It was a scary sight. He was immediately transferred to the hospital for further examinations. He will be fine. “At that point the game was over,” Coach Ettore Messina said. The team was under shock. Fenerbahce won mightly 100-76. The night dedicated to Nicolò Melli and Devon Hall started well and finished bad. “It was a nice sign of respect,” Fenerbahce’s head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius said after the game. “The game was decided in the second quarter, the first was played decently. But the lack of intensity and fighting spirit was demoralizing in the second quarter. We allowed them to run on the break and attack us one on one with limited or no opposition. Early in the second half we have te injuries and the game was pretty much over. Now, our main concerns is for Gillespie and Mirotic.”
