Every year, the Euroleague names the “Rising Star Trophy” to the best player, picked by the coaches, who during the previous summer was under 22 years of age.  Alessandro Gentile is obviously one of the main candidates. Olimpia’s Captain, who turned 21 last winter, had 14 games in double figures. In the Barcelona’s game, before the injury that sidelined him for the entire playoffs, he scored 24 points, a career-high and also his first “over 20” game in Euroleague competition. In that game Gentile also grabbed 7 rebounds, tying the career-high he set one week earlier in Istanbul against Fenerbahce. A career-high were also the 28 points in the index rating: his previous best was of 25 in Bamberg when he also set his new personal best in assists, with six, a best he also tied against Barcelona. To confirm his versatility, during the season he also had a streak of nine games with at least one steal. He played 21 Euroleague games, averaging 11.4 points per game, with 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists. In the Top 16 he raised his 2-point shooting percentage from 47.4 to 51.5% and his 3-point percentages from 28.6 to 39.3. Here we have the comparison with other candidates.
