It was a thriller right through the finish line. In the fourth quarter Olimpia came back from seven down to two and with a few seconds left had the free throws to get within one. But in the end Vitoria edged Olimpia 80-75. Olimpia had a great approach, led most of the first half with a 14-point largest lead but had a terrible third-period outing in the third, scoring just 10 points and going down. “We made three or four mistakes late in the second period, after an excellent first half, and we went to the locker room with a smaller lead than the one we built. Then we made another mistake on the first third quarter possession when we allowed them a 4-point possession off a missed free throw. It was another game lost by a couple of possessions. In the second half we didn’t play well enough offensively to win in Vitoria”, Coach Pianigiani said. Olimpia, without Nedovic and Tarczewski, had a 27-point outing from Mike James, but collectively missed seven fourth quarter free throws. Curtis Jerrells went 0-for-3 when he could tie the game early and Mike James missed two of three when he could reduced the margin to one point. “Both teams are playing without some key players and in the end it was a game of errors, including our free throws but the crowd pushed them a little bit, we made some crucial mistakes and we lost. This EuroLeague is not predictable, we need a couple or three wins to be back in contention”, Pianigiani commented.
