The Italian Cup quarterfinal game is a nightmare in a nightmarish shooting night for Olimpia, starting with Vlado Micov missing all of his four foul shots in the first quarter (when Milan was in control of the game) and finishing with Mike James’ uncharacteristic 3-for-18 night. In the middle there was everything. Bologna deservedly won 86-84. In the last few seconds, a furious rally was completed by Jeff Brooks, who stole the ball and making a mid-range jumper to force overtime. The field goal was canceled via Instant-Replay. Unfortunately the game-clock started too early, making impossible for Brooks to take the shot in time. The referees, because of the IR rules, couldn’t correct the clock operators’ mistake. “We made too many mistakes with too many guys. It was one of those nights – Coach Simone Pianigiani said – We started the game well then after making unusual mistakes, free throws, easy, at-the-rim shots, open threes, we got nervous and kept missing. Even at the end, when we came back, we made a couple of mistakes, a lay-up here, a line touched there, I’m not talking about the last play”.
