Mario Fioretti is a valuable member of the coaching staff since 2003/04. During his stint on the EA7 Emporio Armani Milano bench he’s reached five times the playoff finals (in 2004/05 under coach Lino Lardo, in 2008/09 and 2009/10 under coach Piero Bucchi, finally in 2011/12 under coach Scariolo), finally winning it in 2013/14 under head coach Luca Banchi. In the 2015/16 season, working under Coach Jasmin Repesa, he won finally his first Italy Cup and eventually his second title.
HIS CAREER – As a coach he grew-up in the Intervites Bergamo, in his native town. Then he coached Torre Bodone, at the Titans Bergamo and since 2003 he’s part of the Olimpia Milano, both in the youth teams and in Serie A. He’s been an assistant coach under Attilio Caja, Roberto Carmenati, Lino Lardo, Sasha Djordjevic, Zare Markovski, Caja once again, Bucchi, the legendary Dan Peterson e finally Sergio Scariolo, Luca Banchi and Jasmin Repesa.
NOTES – Fioretti is considered one of the top expert in video analyzing of basketball. He’s also video-coordinator for the Italian national team. He was a member of the Italy’s coaching staff at the 2011 Eurochampionship in Lithuania and again during last summer qualifying tournament… Dan Peterson used to call him the “Basketball Spielberg” because of his expertise as video coordinator… After majoring in economics in Bergamo, he spent one year at the Indiana University following for one season coach Bobby Knight, winner of three NCAA championships… In the States he served as instructor in countless camps for individual improvement. He worked also for Pete Newell (the guru who coached the USA National team at the Roma Olympics in 1960) and for Jim Boeheim, the legendary Syracuse coach.
