Olimpia’s streak has been broken in Avellino. After 22 consecutive regular season wins, Olimpia lost 73-69 in Avellino because of a terrible start. Avellino went up 15-0, forced Coach Luca Banchi to call two time-outs in five minutes and was in a too big of an hole to get back from. Avellino was up by 21 at halftime then Olimpia tried to rally relying on character and defense but had too many costly turnovers and was never into any rhythm shooting the ball.3-point shooting was missing all night long, 3 for 20, and a couple of bad turnovers allowed Avellino to keep the lead even when Olimpia was clearly dictating the tempo and it’s intensity was sky high. Olimpia had the strength to be within three with a few seconds remaining but on the last try Melli was sanctioned with a flagrant foul that effectively closed the game.
