Olimpia’s defense derailed Efes’ offense

Olimpia responded to the task mentally and overcame Efes 77-64 taking control of the game late in the first in order to build a huge lead that never relinqueshed. With no Jordan Theodore but a very inspired Curtis Jerrells (he had five assists), playing exclusively the point for the first time in the season, Olimpia relied on defense, holding Efes to just one three-pointer for the entire game. Arturas Gudaitis grabbed 10 rebounds; Amath M’Baye was the leading scorer with 14 and used hys quickness against the Efes’ big men phisycality. When Olimpia took the game over, the most that Efes was capable of doing was returning withing ten points in the last three minutes. A three-point play by M’Baye and one three by Goudelock closed the deal. “It’s been a solid win for us – Coach Pianigiani said – it wasn’t easy. They are a talented team, coached by a great coach and were in confidence after winning the Turkish Cup. We were at the opposite end of the spectrum. So, mentally was a difficult situazion but we played a solid game, we stayed together and dfeensively we have been very good”.
