Olimpia tried hard to the end, but couldn’t complete the job on its way to a first 83-77 loss

Olimpia never gave up in Munich but in the end it lost for the first time this season. Bayern won 83-77 after an hard-fought battle, full of runs from both sides. The crucial one was a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter right after a couple of great Datome’s jumper Olimpia found itself in the lead. “I think our one on one defense is usually better than it was tonight and it cost us that run and other field goals and even some offensive rebounds,” Coach Ettore Messina said. Olimpia had never allowed more than 80 points this season, but it had not enough consistency throughout the game. Bayern made 10 threes and went 21-for-22 from the line. Those are the numbers that killed Olimpia’s chance. Milan was great at manufacturing baskets, had 18 assists, and shot 73.5 percent from two, while the trio of Melli, Hines and Mitoglou combined for 39 points. But unfortunately, Olimpia went 3-for-29 from the field and the difference, 30 points to nine from the arc were a key factor in the game. “When we got the lead with Datome, we got immediately a 7-0 run again. So that tells you the game. But we move on. We have another game in 48 hours and this is the EuroLeague. If you don’t play very well on the road, it is very difficult to win,”  Coach Messina added.
