In Istanbul, against one of the top team of the entire Euroleague, Olimpia went down, struggled early in the game but fought, competed hard, came back and cane up short, 77-74. The point differential, whatever it means right now, was good in the loss. Fenerbahce used size and physicality while Olimpia played some small ball and showed the courage and personality demanded by Coach Luca Banchi before the game. Unfortunately the game was a matter of a couple of possessions and Fenerbahce found the right plays with Ricky Hickman and the decisive three-pointer by Andrew Goudelock. Olimpia had something interesting by Shawn James, who was basically at his debut, Alessandro Gentile was plagued by foul trouble in a game where he was great in spurts. Nicolò Melli had a terrific second quarter leading the rally and Daniel Hackett set the tempo and had a game with a lot of soul, playing almost 39 minutes. It’s disappointing that such a courageous game was not rewarded with the win. It was 77-74 Fenerbahce in the end.
