Olimpia never gave up and tried one last time to extend the championship series, but after a promising first half the tank was empty again. Bologna took control in the fourth quarter and won 73-62 ending the season. Olimpia was taking part in its 91st game, had a fantastic season until the last week. It won two cups and made it to the EuroLeague Final Four. But in the process it got to the Italian league final series with nothing to spend. “They deserved to win – Coach Ettore Messina admitted – but I need to thank my players anyway because they had a beautiful season. Next time we’ll try to be ready for the last week too. Now my feeling is that we were short on energy both physically and mentally.”
Olimpia built a eight-point lead a couple of times during the first half but the great early effort wasn’t sustained later in the game when pride and defense kept the team afloat but shooting and turnovers frustrated any attempt to assume control of the game. In the end it was a loss consistent with a series that didn’t show the real Olimpia team.
