Olimpia prevails in Trento 79-77 and clinched the first place in the Italian League

Olimpia resisted in Trento, finally prevailing 79-77 after an overtime and clinching its first place in the Italian league regular season. After a spectacular start and a dominating first half, close with a 13-point lead, Olimpia struggled in a 6-point third period. Trento trailed the entire game, tying the score during the last minute of regulation and led briefly in the overtime, on a Forray’s three that answered a field goal made by Andrea Cinciarini. Olimpia, playing without James Nunnally and Nemanja Nedovic, lost Mike James (18 points, 5 assists) late in regulation because of a right foot injury to be re-evaluated today. And still was capable to win, after a convincing defensive game and in spite of many uncharacteristically missed free throws. Whil James led all the scorers, Kaleb Tarczewski was his usual self, connecting on all his six field goal attempts. He scored 15 points. Curtis Jerrells (a great first quarter and a late critical three), Vlado Micov and Mindaugas Kuzminskas also scored in double digit. “With the exception of the third quarter, when we slowed down a little too much while Trento made its maximum effort, our game was solid, the approach was great and the defensive efficiency was also high. That’s a very good sign, because to win we had to overcome many things, including a playoff-like atmosphere that we predicatibly found,”, Coach Simone Pianigiani said.
