Olimpia finished his first-place regular season with the third straight win, a 93-88 defeat of Trieste in a game that didn’t mean much for Milan, that had already secured his top spot. Olimpia sputtered in the beginning, went down 11-0 and scored 14 points in the first quarter. It was a strange game, because Olimpia had two offensively challenged quarter, the other was the third, but managed to score 61 points in the second and fourth quarter combined. The second was a spectacular 39-point display of ball movement, transition offense, great execution. Five players scored in double digit, Amedeo Della Valle led them all with a promising 21-point outing including two three-point plays and consistent trips to the line. Olimpia was playing without Mike James, Nemanja Nedovic and Alen Omic (let alone Arturas Gudaitis). Christian Burns started at the 5 position for the second consecutive game. “Our regular season has been very good, we consistently kept the first place in our hands, we lost only six games throughout the season and a couple of them were incidentals. People forget that we never had our real team and at this time we don’t have three starters, so it’s important to keep everyone involve in order to have the chance to adjust to the opponents. That’s how we will approach the playoffs”, Coach Pianigiani said at the end.
