The regular season is in the book. Olimpia didn’t have nothing to achieve in its last game, against a Cremona team fighting for a playoff berth, but finished on a high note, winning 74-66 because of a solid defensive effort and a great rebounding job especially with the big men. Jeff Brooks grabbed 11 rebounds,Kaleb Tarczewski added nine on top of his 12 points. Olimpia didn’t shoot particularly well, went 6-for-28 from three, but had a 49-34 rebounding advantage that was a key. “We struggled in the beginning, but our zone defense and ball movement allowed us to take a lead and maintain it,” Coach Ettore Messina said at the end. Olimpia was without Malcolm Delaney, Sergio Rodriguez, Kyle Hines and Gigi Datome, shared the minutes across the roster and won its 22nd regular season game. Kevin Punter led the scorers with 13 points, Shavon Shields, Paul Biligha added 12. Milan will play Game 1 of the Italian league quarterfinals series on Tursday at home against Trento. Game 2 is on Friday. “Trento was able to defeat us during the regular season and is playing very well. It’s not going to be easy,” Coach Messina added.
