Luis Scola is the winner of the “Olimpia 2019 Award”, a prestigious trophy that since 1954 is honoring the best Argentine athlete of the year, according to the local sportswriters. Scola has been chosen as the Captain, symbol and leader of the Argentina’s National Teal that conquered the silver medal and an Olympic berth during the World Cup. It’s the fourth time that a basketball player is the winner. Marcelo Milanesio won in 1993, Emanuel Ginobili twice, in 2003 and 2004 (this one was split with soccer striker Carlos Tevez). Along the winners there are big names of the Argentina sports landscape like Juan Manuel Fangio, the legendary driver, the tennis players Guillermo Vilas and Gabriela Sabatini, soccer icons like Diego Armando Maradona and Lionel Messi. Scola’s father, Mario, accepted the award for his son.
