FC Barcelona, Panathinaikos Athens and  Fenerbahce. The Euroleague draw was at the same time tough and fascinating for EA7 Emporio Armani who’s going to play again versus three teams faced in the Top 16 last season (combined record: 4-2) and five opponents (including Bayern Munich and PGE Turow) coming off successful campaigns in their leagues. Barcelona and Panathinaikos by the way won the Euroleague from 2009 to 2011.

THE GROUP – FC Barcelona, the Spanish champion, won the Euroleague in 2010 and was a semifinalist during the last season; Panathinaikos Athens is a six-time Euroleague champion, the last win came in 2011 and just won its Greek championship number 34; Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul has won the Turkish league; Bayern Munich won the German league and PGE Turow did the same in Poland.

THE COMMENT – Coach Luca Banchi: “Obviously the draw has not been a lucky one, but we knew we could take a spot in a very competitive group since we were one of the fourth-seeded teams. All the teams in our group are coming off a successful season, we all won our leagues and that’s proof we’re going to play in a very tough and tight group. For us it’s at the same time motivating and exciting to compete from the beginning against those kind of opponents. Obviously it’ll be necessary to start the season on a very high note in order to achieve the goal of getting to the Top 16.”

THE COMMENT – General manager Flavio Portaluppi: “We are in the Euroleague toughest group for sure but at the same time we are very excited to play since the beginning against opponents so strong, famous and motivating. We’re going to play in beautiful arenas, historical buildings and we’re going to offer to our fans the opportunity to liver very emotional Euroleague nights since the start of the competition. When you play the Euroleague you want to make these kind of experiences”.
