Pallacanestro Olimpia Milan has signed a 2-year contract with Michael Roll, a 1.98 mt swingman, born on April 12, 1987, in Mission Viejo, California, coming from Maccabi Tel Aviv. “I’m beyond excited to get the opportunity to play for such a prestigious club – Michael Roll says – I am coming to Milan to bring everything I have to help us win! I can’t wait to get there and work for Coach Messina and his staff, and all of the guys in the locker room. So, see you soon!”. “Michael Roll is exactly the kind of player we’re looking for, for his skills, unselfishness and experience. He will be a very useful player who will help us to build our group,” says Christos Stavropoulos, Olimpia’s general manager.

HIS CAREER – Michael Roll attended Aliso Niguel High School in Orange County, California, until 2005 when he began his college career at UCLA. There, he played the 2006 NCAA championship game (lost to Florida) and the 2007 NCAA Final Four, and was also part of the team that reached the Final Four again in 2008, but an injury ended his season after six appearances. He was redshirted and as a consequence Roll was able to play college for another two years. In the last one, he averaged 14.1 points and 3.6 assists per game, first in the Bruins. It was included in the All-Pac 10 first team. As a professional, he played in Turkey in Bornova, in Belgium in Antwerp, in Spain in Zaragoza for two years (he reached the semifinal of the Spanish league in 2013), again in Turkey in Ankara, in Büyükçekmece in Turkey while finishing the season in Vitoria in Spain, and then played for Besiktas, once more in the Turkish league. In 2017, he signed for Maccabi where he spent the last two seasons winning the Israeli championship twice.

NOTES – Roll has a Tunisian passport and played the 2015 African Championships with the National Team, finishing third. At UCLA, he played among the others with NBA future stars such as Russell Westbrook, Jrue Holiday, Darren Collison, Luke Richard Mbah-a-Moute and Kevin Love.
